Consent to sex will never be consent to pregnancy. Saying such is akin to saying that consent to driving is consent to being in a car crash. And even still, are you really so cold to say, “It’s your own fault, so you don’t deserve health care”? Fuck you.
Who the fuck are YOU to determine what…
Except getting pregnant is NOTHING like getting into a car crash. Just saying. (In most cases) it’s not a danger to you AT ALL. Getting into a car crash can kind of kill you. Like so can getting pregnant I guess, but with modern technology what REALLY is the chance of that???Bahahahaha. Pregnancy without consent is a form of torture, and horrifying side effects of both pregnancy and childbirth are a lot more common than anti-choicers would have you believe.
Pregnancy and Childbirth complications are the number one killer of women ages 15-44 worldwide.
These are the normal, frequent or expectable temporary side effects of pregnancy:
— exhaustion (weariness common from first weeks)
— altered appetite and senses of taste and smell
— nausea and vomiting (50% of women, first trimester)
— heartburn and indigestion
— constipation
— weight gain
— dizziness and light-headedness
— bloating, swelling, fluid retention
— hemmorhoids
— abdominal cramps
— yeast infections
— congested, bloody nose
— acne and mild skin disorders
— skin discoloration (chloasma, face and abdomen)
— mild to severe backache and strain
— increased headaches
— difficulty sleeping, and discomfort while sleeping
— increased urination and incontinence
— bleeding gums
— pica
— breast pain and discharge
— swelling of joints, leg cramps, joint pain
— difficulty sitting, standing in later pregnancy
— inability to take regular medications
— shortness of breath
— higher blood pressure
— hair loss
— tendency to anemia
— curtailment of ability to participate in some sports and activities
— infection including from serious and potentially fatal disease (pregnant women are immune suppressed compared with non-pregnant women, and are more susceptible to fungal and certain other diseases)
— extreme pain on delivery
— hormonal mood changes, including normal post-partum depression
— continued post-partum exhaustion and recovery period (exacerbated if a c-section — major surgery — is required, sometimes taking up to a full year to fully recover)
These are the normal, expectable, or frequent PERMANENT side effects of pregnancy:
— stretch marks (worse in younger women)
— loose skin
— permanent weight gain or redistribution
— abdominal and vaginal muscle weakness
— pelvic floor disorder (occurring in as many as 35% of middle-aged former child-bearers and 50% of elderly former child-bearers, associated with urinary and rectal incontinence, discomfort and reduced quality of life)
— changes to breasts
— varicose veins
— scarring from episiotomy or c-section
— other permanent aesthetic changes to the body (all of these are downplayed by women, because the culture values youth and beauty)
— increased proclivity for hemmorhoids
— loss of dental and bone calcium (cavities and osteoporosis)
These are the occasional complications and side effects:
— hyperemesis gravidarum
— temporary and permanent injury to back
— severe scarring requiring later surgery (especially after additional pregnancies)
— dropped (prolapsed) uterus (especially after additional pregnancies, and other pelvic floor weaknesses — 11% of women, including cystocele, rectocele, and enterocele)
— pre-eclampsia (edema and hypertension, the most common complication of pregnancy, associated with eclampsia, and affecting 7 - 10% of pregnancies)
— eclampsia (convulsions, coma during pregnancy or labor, high risk of death)
— gestational diabetes
— placenta previa
— anemia (which can be life-threatening)
— thrombocytopenic purpura
— severe cramping
— embolism (blood clots)
— medical disability requiring full bed rest (frequently ordered during part of many pregnancies varying from days to months for health of either mother or baby)
— diastasis recti, also torn abdominal muscles
— mitral valve stenosis (most common cardiac complication)
— serious infection and disease (e.g. increased risk of tuberculosis)
— hormonal imbalance
— ectopic pregnancy (risk of death)
— broken bones (ribcage, “tail bone”)
— hemorrhage and
— numerous other complications of delivery
— refractory gastroesophageal reflux disease
— aggravation of pre-pregnancy diseases and conditions (e.g. epilepsy is present in .5% of pregnant women, and the pregnancy alters drug metabolism and treatment prospects all the while it increases the number and frequency of seizures)
— severe post-partum depression and psychosis
— research now indicates a possible link between ovarian cancer and female fertility treatments, including “egg harvesting” from infertile women and donors
— research also now indicates correlations between lower breast cancer survival rates and proximity in time to onset of cancer of last pregnancy
— research also indicates a correlation between having six or more pregnancies and a risk of coronary and cardiovascular disease
These are some less common (but serious) complications:
— peripartum cardiomyopathy
— cardiopulmonary arrest
— magnesium toxicity
— severe hypoxemia/acidosis
— massive embolism
— increased intracranial pressure, brainstem infarction
— molar pregnancy, gestational trophoblastic disease (like a pregnancy-induced cancer)
— malignant arrhythmia
— circulatory collapse
— placental abruption
— obstetric fistula
And a few more permanent side effects:
— future infertility
— permanent disability
— death.

THIS is why I want to learn how to pole dance.
Pole dancing isn’t always sexual. It’s an incredible work-out and it takes a lot of time and practice. It’s one of the most scrutinized and frowned-upon forms of dancing, but it really shouldn’t be. The ladies and gentlemen who take time to learn how to pole dance are incredible- and so are their bodies! Pole dancing increases cardiovascular state, muscle strength, muscle endurance, motor skills AND flexibility. An average session of 45 minutes can burn 250 calories. You reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease, you increase your bone density, and decrease your cholesterol. How can pole dancing be seen as so horrible when it’s really, really good for you?!
just gonna be devils advocate here and point out that even when pole dancing is sexual, that does not make it an inherently negative thing. there’s nothing wrong with pole dancing because it’s sexy.
I just get super duper sick of this whole “I want to learn pole dancing as an ART!!!” thing, because:
a) it’s got this really nasty slut-shamey quality to it. “oh, I pole dance, but I’m not one of THOSE pole dancers” sounds exactly like “oh, I sleep around, but I’m not like THOSE sluts!” doncha think?
and
b) the implication that sex and art can never coexist - that something has to be JUST sexual or JUST artistic - is just silly and wrong. sex and art have a heavy interwoven history, and I hate seeing people trying to sanitize art. it’s the same as this whole “oh, it’s ARTISTIC nudity, not pornographic!!!” thing. porn is art, sex is art, pole dancing is art and it’s also sexy as hell.

“hey what’d you do over break”
“oh nothing much i just started writing an Avengers fanfiction of which the first 8.5 pages entirely consist of loki being tortured in gratuitous detail yup”
“Wrote three thousands words of fanfiction about two characters who never met in canon… oh, and I played like twenty hours of Skyrim and killed four Dragon Priests.”
In response to your tags, I’ll let you read it at some point when I’ve hammered it out a bit and yada yada. I’m almost at 8,000 words (17ish pages) and I don’t know why but I am having a hell of a time trying to figure out how exactly to write this next part. It’s just not fitting like I wanted it to.
Also I totally didn’t spend over two hours reading about torture techniques or looking at pictures of torture victims and listening to / reading accounts of torture or anything in order to learn more about it nope.
Be prepared.

Happy 90th Birthday to the incredible Sir Christopher Frank Carandini Lee. A true fan of J.R.R Tolkien’s work, he is the only member of the cast to have actually met and spoken to the professor, and to have his blessing to star (albeit as Gandalf) in a film adaptation. He gave the role of Saruman the perfect intensity, and had the commanding, powerful voice that haunts us still.
